Formula / Method

How the calculator works

Each device row converts power to kW, multiplies by hours/day, days/week and 52 weeks to get kWh/year, then sums all rows. Cost is consumption × your rate — in whichever currency you selected, with no conversion. When solar is enabled, feed-in credit (exported kWh × your feed-in rate) is subtracted to give net cost.

Energy cost notes

Which rate do I enter?

Your all-in rate including taxes and grid fees — the number on your electricity bill, not the wholesale/spot market price. That's the rate you actually pay per kWh consumed.

I have solar — how does feed-in work?

You're typically paid a separate, usually lower, feed-in rate for kWh you export to the grid. Net cost is import cost minus feed-in earnings. Enter your own export volume and feed-in rate — both are site- and contract-specific, so nothing is assumed.

Why no automatic currency conversion?

Because you enter your real local rate, results are exact in your own currency straight away — there's no exchange rate to fetch, maintain or get wrong. Pick your currency purely for display and formatting.

Worked example

Inputs: Server + switch, 250 W, always on (24 h × 7 days), rate 0.30 €/kWh, EUR, no solar.

Result: 0.25 kW × 24 × 7 × 52 = 2,184 kWh/yr (≈182 kWh/mo) →655.20 €/yr (≈54.60 €/mo).
