ASHRAE Envelope Checker

Check server inlet dry-bulb temperature, relative humidity and dew point against simplified ASHRAE-style A1–A4 envelopes. Includes custom X1/X2-style project envelopes for vendor-specific checks.

Environmental inputs

Server inlet conditions

Use measured inlet conditions at the IT equipment intake, not room thermostat readings.

Planning note This checker is a simplified screening tool. Confirm final limits against the exact ASHRAE edition, equipment vendor class, warranty requirements and project specifications.

Reference table

Built-in screening envelopes

Use these values for quick planning checks only. Real equipment support may be narrower.

Envelope Temperature Relative humidity Dew point Use case
Recommended 18–27 °C 8–60% -9–15 °C Normal efficient operation target
A1 15–32 °C 8–80% -12–17 °C Enterprise IT equipment
A2 10–35 °C 8–80% -12–21 °C Broader allowable range
A3 5–40 °C 8–85% -12–24 °C Extended allowable range
A4 5–45 °C 8–90% -12–24 °C Wide allowable range

How to use

  1. Select the equipment class or custom project envelope.
  2. Enter measured server inlet temperature and relative humidity.
  3. Review temperature, humidity and dew-point pass/fail status.
  4. Use the result as a screening note, not as final design approval.

Important limitations

This tool does not check all psychrometric boundaries, corrosive-gas monitoring, warranty restrictions, local standards, redundancy, airflow containment or equipment-specific inlet requirements.
